Day trip to Teide Volcano
If you’re looking for a truly unforgettable experience to do in Tenerife, look no further than the Teide volcano. This natural wonder stands at over 3.718 metres, making it the highest peak in Spain, and offers some of the most breathtaking views on the island.
One of the best ways to experience the Teide volcano is by hiking to the summit. The hike can be challenging, but the views are absolutely worth it. As you climb higher and higher, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Tenerife, and it the conditions allows it, some of the other islands too! – The landscape changes as you ascend, from lush forests and rocky terrain to lunar-like landscapes with volcanic rocks and craters.
If you’re not up for the hike, you can still take in the beauty of Teide by taking the cable car. The cable car ride takes you to an altitude of 3,555 meters, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the island and the surrounding landscape. It’s a great way to experience the beauty of the Teide volcano without the strenuous hike.
In my opinion, a visit to the Teide Volcano is a must-do when visiting Tenerife. Whether you choose to hike to the summit or take the cable car, the experience is sure to be one of the highlights of your trip to Tenerife.

Benijo Beach is a wild spot in the north. Here, the waves are ideal for surfers, and the view of the rocks and mountains is breathtaking. Enjoy a seafood lunch at one of the local restaurants.
Las Gaviotas Beach is for the adventurous. Located near Santa Cruz, it’s famous for its relaxed atmosphere and natural incline. It’s great for naturists and those seeking a quiet spot.
El Bollullo Beach is another hidden gem. Accessible only by foot or car, it rewards you with crystal-clear waters and a sense of seclusion. Ideal for a picnic and a dip in the Atlantic.
El Socorro Beach in Los Realejos is fantastic for surfers and has a laid-back vibe. The waves are perfect for both beginners and advanced surfers. Plus, you’ll find local bars to enjoy a drink after a surf session.
Playa Jardín in Puerto de la Cruz is one of the most famous. Designed by César Manrique, it features lush gardens and natural pools. It’s an ideal place to relax on the northern coast.

Best trails in Tenerife
These hiking trails in Tenerife provide a diverse range of natural beauty and experiences, from lush forests to volcanic landscapes. Remember to be well-prepared before embarking on any hike, including carrying enough water, sunscreen, a map or GPS device, and to respect the natural environment and local regulations while enjoying these scenic trails.
Roques de García Trail:
- Enjoy the best views of Mount Teide on this trail.
- Circular route of approximately 3.5 km and is of easy difficulty, with some uphill sections toward the end.
- The most popular section is the first kilometer, which is flat and offers spectacular views. Whether you choose the short version or the full circular route, the Roques de García Trail is a must-do in Tenerife.
Sendero de los Sentidos (Trail of the Senses):
- Take a leisurely stroll through the laurel forest in the Rural Park of Anaga.
- This popular trail is just over 1 km long and has minimal elevation, making it suitable for all levels of hikers. To fully enjoy the lush green landscapes typical of Tenerife, try to visit early in the morning to avoid crowds or book a private excursion.
Bosque de los Enigmas (Forest of Enigmas):
- This circular route, approximately 5 km long, is my personal favorite hiking trail in Tenerife.
- It offers an opportunity to experience the laurel forest without the crowds often found on the Sendero de los Sentidos.
El Bailadero to Taganana Trail:
- This trail offers spectacular views of the mountains and cliffs surrounding Taganana.
- The trail is around 3.5 km one way, and it’s linear, so you’ll need to return to the starting point by bus or retrace your steps.
- There are alternative routes to make it a circular hike, but they are longer. If you have the time and enjoy hiking, it’s definitely worth the effort.
Chamorga to Playa de Roque Bermejo Circular Trail:
- This hike takes you through breathtaking landscapes, combining the intense greenery of the forest with the deep blue of the sea.
- There are several route options ranging from 8 km to 12 km, depending on your fitness level, as there is significant elevation gain.
- Some areas can be challenging due to the humid forest conditions, so be cautious. However, the views are incredible, making it a must-do hike for hiking enthusiasts.
Bosque Encantado (Enchanted Forest):
- Located in the El Pijaral Integral Natural Reserve, this area allows you to admire the laurel forest at its best.
- The most common route is a fairly easy 7 km circular trail with minimal elevation gain. However, obtaining an official permit to access this area can be challenging due to limited availability.
Volcán Chinyero Trail:
- Experience a contrast of landscapes on the Volcán Chinyero Trail, which includes forested areas, volcano views, lava fields, and the backdrop of Mount Teide.
- This is a relatively easy 8 km circular route, but be aware that there is little shade in some sections, so avoid hiking during the hottest part of the day.
- Parking can be a challenge, so you may need to park on the roadside.
Barranco del Infierno (Hell’s Gorge) Trail:
- Walk among caves and mountains in the Barranco del Infierno, a protected area considered a Special Natural Reserve for its geological and archaeological significance.
- This circular 6.5 km trail takes about 3 hours to complete and offers relatively easy terrain.
- If you’re lucky and it has rained in the days prior, you may even enjoy a beautiful waterfall at the end. Unlike other trails, there is an entrance fee of approximately €8.50 per person, and access is limited to 300 visitors per day, so make sure to make a reservation in advance.
Best viewpoints in Tenerife
These viewpoints in Tenerife provide an opportunity to take in the island’s stunning landscapes and appreciate the natural beauty from different perspectives.:
Mirador de Chipeque and Mirador de Ayosa:
- Be amazed by the spectacular views of Mount Teide from some of the viewpoints in the Teide National Park, such as the Mirador de Chipeque and the Mirador de Ayosa.
- These are two of my favorite spots to visit in Tenerife. Along the TF-24 road that leads to the volcano from the north of the island, you’ll find many viewpoints, each offering incredible vistas.
Stop at the Viewpoints in the Anaga Rural Park:
- Make sure to pause at each of the viewpoints in the Anaga Rural Park, one of the most surprising places on our Tenerife journey.
- My favorite viewpoints here include the Mirador de Jardina, which offers beautiful views of La Laguna with Mount Teide in the background.
- Mirador Bailadero, with views of the village of Taganana and the perfect combination of sea and mountains.
- Mirador Pico del Inglés, which provides views of the opposite side from the Mirador Bailadero, where you can see Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the mountains on that side of the park, and, weather permitting, Mount Teide in the distance.
Explore Lesser-Known Spots Like Mirador Punta Del Hidalgo:
- Be pleasantly surprised by lesser-known locations such as the Mirador Punta Del Hidalgo, which offers beautiful views of San Juanito Beach with the mountains of the Anaga Rural Park in the background.
- While it may not be as spectacular as the previous viewpoints, it’s also much less touristy, allowing you to enjoy it in complete tranquility.
