Windsurfing and Kitesurfing in El Médano
If you’re into water sports, El Médano is the place to be. Thanks to the consistent trade winds that sweep through this part of the island, El Médano has become a paradise for windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts.
The beaches here are ideal for both beginners and seasoned pros, with several schools offering lessons and equipment rentals.
Personally, I recommend heading to Playa Leocadio Machado, where you’ll find plenty of space to practise your moves on the waves. Even if you’re not the sporty type, watching the colourful kites and sails dance across the water is an experience in itself. If you’ve ever wanted to try kitesurfing, there’s no better place to start.
Relax on the Beaches of El Médano
El Médano boasts some of the most beautiful natural beaches in Tenerife. While the main beach near Hotel Médano can get busy, especially in the summer, there are quieter spots just a short walk away.
Playa Leocadio Machado is one of my favourite beaches in Tenerife—not just for its surf-friendly conditions, but for its expansive golden sands and relaxed atmosphere.

I recommend getting there early to beat the crowds and have the best selection of goods. Whether you’re looking for a unique gift or just want to immerse yourself in the local culture, the El Médano market is a must-do.

Hike Montaña Roja
Montaña Roja, the iconic red volcanic cone that dominates the landscape of El Médano, is not just a pretty backdrop—it’s also a fantastic place to hike.
